What to Expect During Your Acupuncture Session

Whatever it was that brought you to this point to consider acupuncture – physical pain, infertility, indigestion, anxiety or stress – you’ll soon be on your way to recovery in the hands of a professional acupuncturist. Acupuncture is a safe and natural healing practice that treats many health conditions, and more people are catching on to its benefits.  Woman on Acupuncture Table

Before you attend your first session, which is typically an hour and a half long, it is wise to read up on what sort of sensations to expect so that you are comfortable with the process.

For the most part, acupuncture does not hurt or harm you in any way. Aside from possibly an occasional mild muscle ache, the same sensation you experience after a productive work out, you won’t feel anything of concern. This ‘pain’ sensation dissipates within a minute as the energy opens. We use the Japanese style painless technique, which is the more gentler and precise of all acupuncture techniques.

During this technique, ultra-thin needles are used to pierce the skin at the surface. This is where you will feel the most pressure, but it will not be painful. You may feel a warm but liberating sensation as well, which indicates energy flow within the body.

You can expect to fall asleep during a session, especially if you’re being treated for insomnia. Many clients express that they feel more stress relief after an acupuncture session than with massage therapy. Acupuncture makes you cognizant of the present moment, relaxing both body and mind.

If you’ve decided to try acupuncture for the first time, you’re taking a valiant step towards a happier and healthier you. WellStream Acupuncture wants to make the process easy for you. Sign up as a new patient with us today.
